Firelight Coffee - Brazil FAF Reserva

| /

An absolutely splendid Brazilian Single Origin offering that is a full-body and serves as an artful depiction of what Brazilian coffees are best known for - low-acidity, classic "cup of joe" mouth feel.

Produced by Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza (FAF), this Yellow Bourbon showcases the distinct regional characteristics ranging from clean fruity floral notes to heavy dense syrupy bodies. Coffee drinkers who enjoy a bold cup of coffee will surely enjoy this. Consider preparing this coffee on a Chemex or Aeropress to extract the more floral components.

Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza (FAF) means "Environmental Fortress Farm”. The mission of FAF is to be a socially, environmentally and economically sustainable farm and to provide a model for sustainability in Brazil. When the current, fourth generation farmer Silvia Baretto (pictured with her husband above) inherited the farm in 2001, she and her family decided to drastically alter the farm by making the entire farm organic with a focus on sustainable farming. This change reduced yields significantly, but eventually set the standard for sustainable farming in Brazil.

Firelight got involved with FAF after an inspiring talk from Silvia’s son, Felipe, at a coffee expo in Atlanta. Since that time, they have worked closely with the Baretto family every year to evaluate coffees and select lots to include in our blends and single origin menu.  Because FAF is a large farm, they do their own importing and exporting which means Brazilians own, and as a result are compensated for, the majority of supplychain of this relationship. This also provides Firelight the opportunity to cup and evaluate coffees as soon as they are harvested in Brazil, and work with FAF for all next steps.

Firelight pays FAF directly for the coffee, and the all-in cost to Firelight for the current lot of coffee is $3.27/lb (it is a flat $3/lb before shipping).
